NOW FOR THE F.A. CUP

It is a little over a month ago that the new season began, and we have already played nine games. Neutrals could be excused for asking which league  we play in, since half our matches are being played against sides from the Sydenhams Wessex League in these early stages. If League standings at this stage are anything to go by, then our bid to progress further in the FA Cup and FA Vase we will be tested even further in the next rounds, when we entertain Hamworthy United and Cowes Sports on the next two Saturdays. If we were to extend our Cup and Vase runs further by a couple of rounds, it would  help towards money paid on ground improvements.

Our Opponents report - Disappointment after Tuesday's high

Following Tuesday's fantastic win this was the reverse. Whitchurch never looked like winning.Hallen goals in the 12th and 60th minutes were just 2 of the opportunities they were offered while the Boys never really looked like scoring. The game was played in a friendly atmosphere and players and supporters were made very welcome - good luck to Hallen in the next round

 MATCH REPORT

GLOUCESTERSHIRE F.A. CUP COMPETITIONS
The club has received a bye in the first round of the Trophy, and will visit  the winners of Bitton v Henbury being played on Tuesday. The Reserves have a home tie against Southmead United in the Senior Amateur Cup to be played Saturday 21st September. A week later the 'A' team entertain Tyndalls Park Rangers in the Junior Cup. The 'B' team will be playing The Clifton Rockets away in The Intermediate Cup also on 28th September.

The Local Press ......'The Post'

Players of today, will have only heard of the Saturday 'Green Un' or 'Pink Un' newspapers, which were on sale from around 6pm on a Saturday night. These editions would carry match reports at least up to half time from amateur matches throughout the region, and most match results were included. There was extensive coverage of clubs throughout the season with weekly articles. Not just football but details of each innings of cricket clubs during the summer, as well as all the other sports.

What we have today in Bristol, is a newspaper that resembles a magazine, and news that is out dated by the time it hits the streets. Friday's edition I note states that we play Whitchurch United in the FA Vase this week, A SOUTH BRISTOL SIDE whom we defeated in the FA Cup. I wish to bring to the attention of our so called local newspaper the only South Bristol side I can find of similar name is Whitchurch Sports playing in Division Five of the Bristol Suburban League. Even if this club had the necessary facilities it would take at least seven seasons of promotion to even be eligible for FA Vase or FA Cup. If our local newspaper cannot do better, then I would urge them to call it a day.

HALLEN GUILTY OF SQUANDERING CHANCES

Tuesday 3rd September 2013 – WLP

RADSTOCK TOWN 1 HALLEN 1

This game was played in front of a home crowd that could be described as partisan should the word mean “capable of seeing things only one way”. Add to this a home dugout that berated the officials for every decision given against their team and you had a match that was always simmering but, luckily, never boiled over. It was a game where the Hallen boys needed to stand strong and they did so enabling them to create a host of good goal-scoring opportunities. Had they converted just half of them they would have won at a canter.

Budweiser with FA CUP

Hamworthy United will be our opponents in the 2nd Qualifying round of the F.A.Cup, having progressed with a 3-1 away win over Wimborne Town in the last round. It was an unexpected win for the Hammers against Southern League opponents to whom they had lost 5-0 in a pre season friendly. No doubt their expectations of further progress would have been boosted by that win

Carlsberg F.A.Vase

Cowes Sports knicknamed the Yachtsmen take to the sea on a regular basis for away matches travelling from the Isle of Wight to compete in the Sydenhams Wessex League, where they are currently league leaders in Division One. The club received a bye in the 1st Qualifying round, of the FA Vase, but other than that the draws have been unkind. Their visit to the Hallen Centre means a two and half hour journey over land and sea, as was the case when they visited Yate Town in the Preliminary round of FA Cup. Narrowly defeated at Yate Town 2-1, it is should be an encounter that will require Armadillos to hit top form to progress further.
