Update from Chairman..............AUGUST 11th 2015
I would like to wish everyone a warm welcome to Hallen AFC, especially to visitors and all their supporters.
It is a great honour to be taking on the role of Chairman of Hallen AFC. I cannot say this however without mentioning my predecessor Barrie Phillips. Throughout his time as chairman he has put an amazing amount of time and hard work into the club and I hope that whilst I am chairman I can represent Hallen AFC to the best of my ability. I will certainly try.
The start of the new season gives me the chance to update you on the club and what's been happening. It would only be right for me to firstly mention the current situation regarding the clubs future at the Hallen Centre and Moorhouse Lane. As you will all know the closed season brought with it a period of time when we thought we were going to have to leave Hallen and major decisions regarding the club were going to have to be made. The efforts of so many to help our cause were overwhelming and even though we have already done so I would just like to thank everyone again for all the support.
Four councillors have now felt the need to resign which has given us a position where we are able to talk to the parish council with regards to finding a solution regarding the centre which will hopefully be positive for the football club, the village and all of the community that use it. Although there is still a lot sort out, we are confident that we have a future at Hallen for all of our teams both senior and junior.
I would like to wish our 1st team manager Steve Winter and his assistant Kevin Carmargo all the very best for this year and hope that they can produce a Hallen team that we can be proud of. I can certainly say from what I have seen at pre-season training that lots of hard work has been put in and our pre-season results have been very good, beating the likes of Tiverton Town, Keynsham and Chipping Sodbury. Lets hope we can take it into the season and have a successful campaign.
The same best wishes also go out to Darren Butt and the Reserves who will be starting their season shortly in the Bristol Premier League. Butty has recruited former 1st team captain Mark Reid as his number two and I'm sure Reiders experience will be invaluable. Our junior section is thriving at the club and we are now running teams at under 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s and two teams at under 10s for the coming season. I wish all the coaches and young Hallen stars of the future all the very best for 2015/16.
All the matches are played on Sunday mornings and afternoons and I'm sure all the Hallen kids would love any additional support.
I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work that has been going on recently on the ground. The ground doesn't get to look the way it does without people giving up their free time to cut grass, clean, paint, weed kill, cut trees, erect new nets etc etc.
Thanks to all the members that have again volunteered to serve on our main and junior committees and thanks to Dave Cains for all his hard work in the physio room and to Ray Bright for compiling the match day programme and our fantastic website. I would also like to say special thanks to our groundsman Terry Henderson for once again keeping the playing surfaces fantastic.
Lastly, thanks must go to all our sponsors for 2015/16 for all their help and support and to all the players that will this year choose to play for Hallen AFC.
Up the Hallen
Chairman, Hallen AFC
